What Makes Snow So Magical?
Today at school we are lucky enough to have a snow day. Unfortunately, it took the administration until about 9:10 AM to decide that the roads were unsafe-- by this time many people had already driven to their 8 AM classes and had their cars get stuck in many parking lots.
Anyways, I am currently sitting in my dorm basement looking out the window and watching the snow fall. Students all bundled up walk by as they return to their dorms, and many of them stop to take pictures of the beautiful scenes all around them (thankfully they can't see me watching them from the window). But what I can't help thinking is that this "snow" is just white powdery stuff that is actually rather boring. Yet everyone (including myself) is thrilled by it! Why? Where did we learn to get so excited about snow?
Maybe we like it because it usually means school is cancelled or because it means that we get to stay in our pajamas all day and watch Netflix (HIMYM, anyone?). Perhaps you enjoy a delicious cup of hot chocolate on days like these. Or maybe you are that person who tries to convince all your friends to put clothes on and go sledding with you. Maybe you are like me, who is just happy that class is cancelled because she didn't finish her homework assignments.... :)
Whatever you plan on doing on this beautifully snowy day, I hope you stay safe (you probably shouldn't drive anywhere based off of all the pictures of people who are pushing their cars on my Twitter feed) and enjoy yourself.
(As I am writing this, the maintenance staff are trying to plow all this snow away, but it is falling quicker than they can plow... they should probably just go home!)
Stay warm,
Christina

What I Learned: Last Night
Today I am starting a new "series" here on Blondie Says. Hopefully this will be a good way for me to keep track of all the little things (funny & serious) I have learned throughout the year, and give me something to look back on in December 2014!
This is what I learned last night:
I learned that team work and positivity can produce awesome results.
I learned that social media is one of the most powerful tools of this generation.
I learned that, sometimes, getting ready is more fun than actually going out.
I learned that borrowing a friend's clothes is always a good idea-- Jeanne's Closet is my favorite place to shop.
I learned that the McDonald's drive-thru only allows two orders per car.
I learned that fire alarms don't actually signal the Fire Department to come to your location (at least not the ones in Jeanne's apartment...).
I learned that it's always a good idea to have your toothbrush with you when going over to a friends house-- spontaneous sleepovers DO happen.
And finally, I learned that staring out a window into the night sky is the best way to fall asleep.
Until next time,
Christina

Welcome to My Life.
I am known for starting something and never finishing it. For example, this blog. I created it last summer, and I have posted about three times. THREE. And my last post was in September...
So this year, I promised myself that I would try to post on this blog at least once a week. I think my problem last summer was that I had this unrealistic expectation that my blog would be an overnight sensation-- and when that didn't happen (c'mon Christina...), I sort of gave up on the idea of blogging. I thought I had to have something groundbreaking and deeply philosophical to write about. But as I thought about it, a blog is really just a diary on steroids. I can write about whatever I want! I received an American Girl diary when I was about 7 years old, and when I look back on it, I can't help but smile and laugh. I was ridiculous!
Here are some pictures of my entires for your enjoyment:
My first entry ever.
The tragic moment when you think that you are the only girl who doesn't have a bra. LOL.
Who didn't love the Cheetah Girls 2?? Also, note my obsession with my new gel pens
(and the change in handwriting).
I officially became a teenager!
The rest of the entries after that were pretty much about boys, or boys, or boys. And maybe the occasional entry about my everyday life or a momentous event. I kept writing in this diary until March of 2012-- that's crazy to me! I am so glad I received this diary for Christmas in 2001-- whatever memories my brain forgot, this diary will NEVER forget.
So that's my hope for this blog. I want it to be something that I enjoy writing ridiculous life events in, and I could care less who reads it. This blog is my personal diary, and I cannot wait to look back at it in a few years and laugh.
Welcome to my life.

Top 5 Fashion and Top 5 Makeup & Hair Trends for Fall 2013
This classic sweater style has been seen before in both the
1970s and 1990s, and like all good fashion, it reappears 20 years later. This
is no exception for this beautiful sweater.
I remember as a kid of the 90s, my mom received a set of matching
sweaters, for my sister and I, that were reminiscent of the Fair Isle
style. Until now, I never thought of
them being a cute fall and winter staple.
Too bad they don’t fit anymore! No worries for you though, this style
can be found many places. Pair it over top a chambray or solid button up for a
preppy look, or with a flowy skirt for a more bohemian style.
Remember those flashy plaid outfits that Cher from the movie
“Clueless” would wear? Well, that style has returned for this season, much to
my dismay. I have never been a fan of
the “tartan plaid”, and I don’t know if I ever will be. It just reminds me too much of private school
I suppose. But for those of you that
want to try this out, it’s kind of an all-or-nothing style. You have to commit wholeheartedly to the
plaid and accept it. Try layering a few different pieces (like a chiffon top
with a faint plaid pattern and a bold
plaid blazer) with your favorite trousers or jeans and strut your stuff. Confidence is key with this trend. You don’t want the patterns to overwhelm you!
I personally love the 1950s style, and when I was flipping
through Glamour magazine and saw this
trend, I became intrigued. You may be asking…How would I wear this? Would this
even look good on my body type? Well, I would recommend pairing the skirt with
a pair of wedges and a flattering blouse.
The one benefit of this style skirt is that is looks good on EVERYONE. It sits on your waist, and accentuates the smallest
part of your body. Hello, curves!
Modcloth seemed to have some cute vintage style options, as shown in the photo
below.
Summer is gone and with it went the light, pastel, and girly
floral patterns. This fall, opt for a
dark palette of colors and pair it with dark accessories and pants. The dark
colors make it more vampy and “fallish”. Maybe a floral pantsuit (like Gwyneth
Paltrow is rocking) is a little too much for you, so go find a cute dress and
pair it with some tights, black boots, and a knit beanie for a more wearable
look.
This is not a really new style for most of us. Skater skirts
can be found in H&M, Forever 21, and most department stores pretty
easily. I included this because it is
the same silhouette as the 1950s full skirts, its just shorter. So, if you
still want your waist to look tiny, but don’t feel like the t-length will
flatter you, try this option! It would look so adorable with a pair of combat boots,
a chunky sweater, yet delicate accessories.
1. Cat eyes were seen on many runways for this
fall, and I know what most of you are thinking. I SUCK at making a cat eye with
my eyeliner. Well, good news—you’re not alone (yes, I too struggle with
this). In the picture of Cara Delevigne
above, the cat eye shape was created with black eye shadow. This is so much
easier than traditional liners. All you
need is some scotch tape and a fluffy blending brush to achieve this look.
Simply place the tape at the corner of your eye and angle it in the direction
that you want your cat eye. Then, take
your shadow and the fluffy brush and gently blend from the outside corner of
your eye to the edge of the tape. When finished, take the tape off gently and voila! You have your cat eye. You can
also use any color eye shadow you want; you are not limited to black!
2. Taylor swift started the red lip trend recently,
and I doubt that its going anywhere anytime soon. When using a bright color like this, make
sure to keep the rest of your makeup relatively simple; let your lips be the
star of the show. Using a red lip liner
in addition to your lipstick or stain will also keep the color lasting longer.
3. Orange eye shadow was seen on the runways this season as well. Some used more dramatic colors and used orange as a pop of color, while others just placed the pumpkin shade all across the lid. This color also is extremely flattering for brown and blue eyes!
4. One way to change up your hair for the fall time
is to get a hair cut! It sounds so obvious and simple, but for a lot of us it
can be very difficult. This past month I
got my bangs cut like TSwift’s and I about had a meltdown when I couldn’t style
them the way I wanted. I finally figured
it out though, and I look completely different! I came back to campus and some
people didn’t even recognize me…seriously, it was weird for me. Anyways, all I
am trying to say is that changing up your hair can do wonders for your overall
“look”. You just have to bit the bullet and trust your stylist!
5. In addition to red lips being on trend this
season, wine colored lips have also made reappearance. This vampy color can be
a little more difficult to wear, but it screams
fall and winter. Try going for a lighter
berry color if you are unsure, and gradually find a darker shade to suit your
skin tone. Then rock it all season long!
I hope this sparked some ideas in your head for this coming
season. It will be here before you know it!

Product Review: Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara!
CoverGirl has done it again. This new mascara has been out in stores for a while now, but I was hesitant to pick it up until a few weeks ago (I wasn't a huge fan of LashBlast). It is awesome! It provides great separation and length, WITHOUT CLUMPS. I don't think it can get better than that.
The brush is the unique part of this mascara. It's curved. Maybelline Falsies mascara is the same way, but that one has a standard "bristle" wand, while the Clump Crusher has short, stubby, rubber bristles. I think the rubberized bristles help immensely in trying to avoid clumps. This is probably because the short bristles allow less product to get on the wand, which means that less product is being put on your eyelashes as a whole. It takes about two coats for me to get them to look the way I want, but that's pretty typical of any mascara. Clump Crusher holds a nice curl in my lashes, too! The crescent moon shaped brush is perfect for lifting my eyelashes up and out.
The price is very reasonable as well. I believe it was around $7 at my local Walmart.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this mascara. It is worth the hype!
